If you’ve ever wondered whether hiring a personal trainer is actually worth it for weight loss, you’re not alone.

Many people assume a personal trainer simply counts your reps or pushes you through exhausting workouts.

The reality is that a good personal trainer for weight loss in Ashford should do far more than that.

Weight loss isn’t about spending hours in the gym or surviving on salads. It’s about creating habits that fit around your life, helping you stay accountable, and building a routine you can actually stick to.

That’s exactly what I do through The Viking Lifts.

Having personally lost over 11 stone, I understand how difficult the journey can feel because I’ve lived it myself. I’ve since helped hundreds of men and women lose weight without giving up the foods they enjoy or sacrificing their social lives.

What Does a Weight Loss Personal Trainer Actually Do?

Many people believe personal training is simply about exercise.

In reality, exercise is only one piece of the puzzle.

A weight loss personal trainer should help you:

  • Build a realistic training plan.

  • Improve your nutrition without restrictive diets.

  • Stay accountable when motivation disappears.

  • Build consistency rather than perfection.

  • Learn habits that last long after the weight comes off.

Anyone can give you a workout.

The real value comes from helping you stay consistent for months rather than days.

My Coaching Philosophy

One of the biggest reasons people struggle to lose weight is because they’re following plans they simply can’t maintain.

Extreme diets.

Cutting out favourite foods.

Hours of cardio.

Starting every Monday.

Stopping every Friday.

That’s not sustainable.

At The Viking Lifts, my coaching is built around balance.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Eat foods you genuinely enjoy.

  • Lose weight without feeling constantly hungry.

  • Enjoy holidays and meals out.

  • Keep progressing during busy weeks.

  • Build habits you can maintain for years.

Because if you can’t imagine yourself doing it next year, it’s probably not the right plan.

My Own Weight Loss Journey

For years I struggled with my confidence.

At my heaviest I weighed around 160 kg.

I tried countless diets.

I thought I had to cut out all the foods I enjoyed.

I believed weight loss meant living in the gym.

Eventually I discovered something much more powerful.

Consistency.

By changing my habits gradually, learning how to eat more sensibly rather than perfectly, and training intelligently, I lost over 11 stone while still enjoying pizza, takeaways, meals out, holidays and time with friends.

That experience shapes every client I coach today.

I’m not teaching theory.

I’m teaching the methods that genuinely changed my own life.

Do You Need to Exercise Every Day to Lose Weight?

Absolutely not.

This is one of the biggest myths in fitness.

Most of my clients don’t train every day.

Many train just two or three times per week.

Weight loss is driven primarily by creating a calorie deficit.

Exercise certainly helps, but your nutrition, daily activity levels and consistency have a much bigger impact than endless gym sessions.

The goal isn’t to spend more time exercising.

It’s to make the time you do spend count.

Why Accountability Makes Such a Difference

Most people already know what they should be doing.

They know vegetables are good.

They know protein matters.

They know moving more helps.

Knowledge isn’t usually the problem.

Consistency is.

Having someone checking in, adjusting your plan, supporting you through difficult weeks and helping you get back on track after setbacks is often the difference between another failed attempt and long-term success.

Success Isn’t About Being Perfect

One meal doesn’t ruin progress.

One holiday doesn’t ruin progress.

One weekend doesn’t ruin progress.

What matters is what happens afterwards.

The most successful clients aren’t the ones who never slip up.

They’re the ones who keep going.

That’s exactly the mindset I coach.

Personal Training in a Private Gym

If you’re based locally, all in-person coaching takes place in my private training facility in Ashford.

That means:

  • No crowded commercial gym.

  • No waiting for equipment.

  • No feeling judged.

  • A calm, supportive environment.

  • Sessions designed entirely around you.

Many clients tell me they feel far more comfortable training privately than they ever did in a busy gym.

Online Coaching Available Worldwide

Not based in Kent?

No problem.

I also coach clients online across the UK and internationally.

Online coaching includes:

  • Personalised nutrition guidance.

  • Individual training plans.

  • Regular check-ins.

  • Progress tracking.

  • Accountability and support.

  • Adjustments as your lifestyle changes.

The goal is exactly the same as my in-person coaching:

Helping you lose weight in a way you can actually maintain.
